What is an IFSC code?
The Indian Financial System Code identifies a bank branch for electronic transfers. It is issued by the Reserve Bank of India and printed on cheques and passbooks.

From the national IFSC directory, which reflects the Reserve Bank of India’s published list.
Why does the fifth character have to be 0?
It is reserved for future use, so every valid IFSC has a zero there. A letter O in that position is a common typo the checker catches.
